Ken Sanchez

Ken originally hails from Costa Rica and relocated to Clinton, New Jersey in 1994, where he held leadership positions at multiple nonprofit organizations. He moved to San Mateo, California in early 2021 with his wife Flor, also a board member.

By profession, Ken is a medical doctor and biomedical engineer with over 35 years in the pharmaceutical industry, having worked for major companies including Merck, Glaxo, TEVA, and Gilead Sciences.

Together with Flor, Ken co-manages Vidas y Sueños, a Neighbors Abroad partner organization in Oaxaca, Mexico. This nonprofit addresses wellness, health, and nutrition for vulnerable families and children. Recently, they expanded into sustainability initiatives, most notably implementing a rainwater capture program benefiting 50 families in the indigenous village of Yaxe. This project earned recognition with a 2022 Innovation in Humanitarian Assistance Award from Sister Cities International.
