Nodelyn Lago Smith

Nodelyn became involved with Neighbors Abroad after participating in a delegation to Palo, Leyte, Philippines, inspired by the decades-long work of Neighbors Abroad and its positive impact on the children and community.

Born in the Philippines, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1963 and earned a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from UC Berkeley in 1983. Her 20-year Silicon Valley career included roles as a systems programmer at IBM working on satellite command and control software, and as a technical specialist at Oracle specializing in database technology for mission-critical applications.

At UC Berkeley, she participated in the Filipino-American Alliance student organization. Together with her husband Doug, also a Berkeley graduate, she has supported the university's engineering and science colleges plus athletics. She raised three children in Palo Alto schools and is a Woman's Club of Palo Alto member. Her interests include traveling, hiking, attending Cal football games and writing short stories based on immigrant experiences.
