Albi-Palo Alto 30th Anniversary Celebrations – 2024

Albi, France

In 2024, Albi and Palo Alto marked thirty years as Sister Cities. The celebration commenced in July when Albi hosted a delegation from Palo Alto, featuring Mayor Greer Stone meeting Albi Mayor Stephanie Guiraud-Chaumeil. Activities included visits to the Sainte-Cecile Cathedral, described as “the largest brick building in the world,” and the Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec museum honoring the native artist. A ceremony in a local park included placement of a commemorative plaque.

In October, Palo Alto observed the milestone with a tree planting at JLS Middle School where French teacher Jacqui Kandell instructs grades 7-8. Mayor Stone participated in planting a silver linden tree, species similar to those in the Albi region. Attendees included Carol Stevens, a former board member instrumental in establishing the relationship, Aurora Singers members with three-decade ties to an Albi chorale, and city officials. Albi VP Jennifer Kleckner organized the event and prepared French pastries.
